Tyrone Guthrie Bursaries 2012 – including a new opportunity for artists working in Printmaking
Funding, Opportunities

Kilkenny County Councils Arts Office in partnership with the Tyrone Guthrie Centre is extending its annual Tyrone Guthrie Bursary Awards to include three artists’ residencies in 2012.  The annual residency opportunity for a practitioner in any art form currently based in Kilkenny to spend two weeks The Tyrone Guthrie Centre artists’ workplace in Co Monaghan will continue this year.

Our bursary expansion will incorporate the opportunity for two artists working in print to spend one week sharing the Print Studio plus accommodation in the Stewarts House and meals in the ‘Big House’. This is possible as the Tyrone Guthrie Centre has extended their facilities to include a new printmaking studio and this is a special bursary award for printmakers for 2012. This bursary is very timely for Kilkenny as we opened the doors of Blackstack Fine Art print Studio last summer. This studio aims to promote the art of printmaking and support artists by providing intaglio and screen printing facilities. Part of a growing network of green studios worldwide, Kilkenny’s new print studio will use environmentally sustainable printmaking methods. It will also provide outreach and education programmes such as workshops, lectures and demonstrations bringing the art of printmaking into the heart of the community. Consequently this is an opportunity to build and nurture relationships for the studio and artists in Kilkenny and indeed the south east who focus on print. For current course details click here.

If applying for the Print residency it is essential that at least one of the artists is an experienced printmaker and both successful artists must be members of a recognised print studio, preferably Blackstack Fine Art Print Studio, Kilkenny.

Overall the aim of the Residencies is to assist and encourage both established and emerging practitioners and to give them an opportunity to work intensively on a ‘project’ alongside others in a very unique environment.

Closing date for receipt of completed applications is no later than 4pm on Tuesday 20th March 2012.
