Crafts Council of Ireland Castle Yard, Kilkenny. Wednesday 21st April 2010 at 4pm
Arline Fisch studied extensively in the United States and Denmark. Arline
Fisch is noted for her work with knitted metals. She published a book on
the subject, Textile Techniques in Metal for Jewelers. In1970 she began to
study woven and knitted structures. Arline Fisch has always been
concerned with the making of jewelry to be worn, and the creation of
unique works of art, which have the human body as their site. Arline
prefers working in a larger than usual scale, with collars, pectorals, and
head ornaments as favored formats.
The use of textile structures such as weaving, plaiting, kitting enable
Arline to produce pliable planes which conform readily to the human
form, and which have a softness and warmth not always possible in
metal.
Arline Fisch has been an influencial and key figure in contemporary
Jewellery for almost 40 years. She has lectured extensively in America
and Europe. She is an active participant in organizations such as the
World Crafts Council and the Society of North American Goldsmiths.
